Materials
Our prints are made from 100% recycled PLA, a plant-based (sugarcane and sugar beets) plastic which is industrially compostable and recyclable.
We source our material from Kiwifil, New Zealand manufacturer who shares our enthusiasm for sustainability. You can read more here about how they’re reducing their carbon footprint with reuse and recycle methods.. Supporting conservation through tree planting and native bird rescue programs.
We’re always looking for sustainable ways to package and protect our prints with biodegradable or recycled packaging.
Design
Our prints are primarily designed to be wall mounted and have built in features for this, including hook points or string hangers depending on the size of the print.
We typically print in Light Marble PLA, which has a fine black fleck through it for a more natural appearance. We find this interacts really well with light and shadow across the surface of the print. Positioning the print with a light source off to one side can really make the topography come alive! We can print in other colours on request.
For custom prints, we work with you to define your point of interest and a suitable size & scale to show off the topographic features in the best way. See our "Custom Maps" tab for more detail.
The data for our prints is from a number of sources including high resolution LiDAR scans, satellite generated elevation data and bathymetric surface scans (underwater).  The detail on your print will largely depend on the quality of data available and the scale of the print.
Our largest printer can do prints up to 630 mm wide x 500 mm high. We're looking to expand this in the near future so watch this space!
